Growing up, we began the celebrations with a big family dinner and special dishes that meant all things auspicious: noodles for long life, dumplings for wealth (shaped like Chinese gold ingots), fish for prosperity, sweet rice balls for family togetherness, and more. When I think of Lunar New Year, I think of large family gatherings, visiting extended family members, red packets of money and eating traditional food.
